Rangamati, Nov 16 (V7N) – Police in the tourist city of Rangamati have intensified operations to curb rising social crimes, including violence against women and children, drug abuse, and the circulation of yaba tablets. As part of a month-long crackdown, Kotwali Police Station has arrested at least 120 individuals and registered 15 cases.

According to data from Kotwali Police Station, 63 people were detained for involvement in immoral or antisocial activities. Another 21 suspects were arrested in regular criminal cases, 13 were detained on outstanding warrants, four were convicted individuals, and one was arrested in a case related to violence against women and children.

Police said that during this period, three cases were filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, two under the Special Powers Act, five drug-related cases, and five cases over other offenses, bringing the total to 15. Authorities have also executed 66 warrants and disposed of 25 cases.

In addition, police seized two auto-rickshaws used for smuggling foreign cigarettes, 123 boxes of illegal cigarettes, 112 yaba tablets, and nine liters of locally brewed liquor.

Confirming the data, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Sahed Uddin said the police are operating under the directives of Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr. Farhad Hossain to transform Rangamati into a safe and crime-free tourist destination. He reiterated the force’s zero-tolerance policy toward crimes involving women and children, drugs, and all other unlawful activities.

He said cooperation from local residents has already contributed to several successes and emphasized that police will maintain strict vigilance in the coming days. Urging citizens to stand against criminals and share information with law enforcement, the OC assured that the identities of informants will always be kept confidential.
