Dhaka, Nov 16 (V7N) — The International Crimes Tribunal’s verdict in the case against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun will be broadcast live on Bangladesh Television (BTV) on Monday.

The three-member International Crimes Tribunal-1, headed by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder, fixed the date for the verdict on November 13. The other members of the bench are Judge Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Judge Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.

The prosecution has brought five charges of crimes against humanity related to the July–August 2024 mass uprising and has sought the death penalty for Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal. State-appointed defence counsel, however, argued for their innocence and sought full acquittal. Defence for former IGP Al-Mamun — who later turned state witness — has also sought his acquittal.

Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam, along with prosecutors Mizanul Islam and Gazi S. H. Tamim, led the arguments for the state. Prosecutors B. M. Sultan Mahmud, Shaikh Mahdi and Abdus Sattar Palawan were also present. State-appointed lawyer Md. Amir Hossain represented Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, while Zayed Bin Amjad defended Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun.

A total of 54 witnesses testified in the case, including family members of victims. The father of Abu Sayeed — the first martyr of the mass uprising — was among the key witnesses. National Citizen Party convener and July Movement leader Nahid Islam, along with Daily Amar Desh editor Dr. Mahmudur Rahman, appeared as star witnesses.

Charges were formally framed on July 10, paving the way for full trial proceedings. During the investigation phase, former IGP Al-Mamun admitted his involvement and agreed to become a public witness.

The case stems from allegations that the Awami League government, its political cadres, segments of the civil administration and parts of law enforcement agencies carried out genocide and crimes against humanity while suppressing the nationwide student-led uprising in July–August 2024. Trials related to multiple charges from that period are currently underway in two International Crimes Tribunals.
