Dhaka, Sep 15 (V7N) – The first day of testimony against 16 accused, including former MP Saiful Islam, in the case of burning five bodies and killing one person alive in Ashulia, Savar, on August 5 last year during the July Movement, will be held today at the International Crimes Tribunal-2.

On Sunday, during the opening statement, the Chief Prosecutor said that the prosecution has “irrefutable evidence”, strong enough to try the accused “in any court in the world.”

During the hearing, Tribunal-2 questioned whether members of the armed forces can be tried in this tribunal. The Chief Prosecutor responded that the debate is unnecessary, as the Tribunal Act grants authority to try members of those forces.

Meanwhile, in a separate crimes against humanity case, the editor of the Daily Amar Desh, Dr. Mahmudur Rahman, is scheduled to testify today against Sheikh Hasina, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun. Nahid Islam, one of the key leaders of the July Movement, may also give testimony.

So far, 45 witnesses have testified in this case, including family members of victims, survivors, eyewitnesses, doctors, and official witnesses.
