Dhaka, Aug 25 (V7N) – The court has granted a five-day remand to controversial content creator Touhid Afridi in the murder case of Md. Asadul Haque Babu, filed at Jatrabari Police Station in connection with last year’s anti-discrimination movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farazana Haque issued the remand order on Monday. Afridi was brought to the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court at 2:25 pm and placed in the CMM Court jail.

Police Inspector Khan Md. Erfan of the CID, the investigating officer of the case, had sought a seven-day remand for questioning. Afridi’s lawyers requested bail and cancellation of the remand. After hearing both sides, the court approved a five-day remand.

Afridi was arrested by a CID team in Barisal on Sunday night and later brought to Dhaka. Earlier, on August 17, his father Nasir Uddin Sathi, chairman of MyTV, was arrested in connection with the same case and placed on a five-day remand.

According to the case file, Md. Asadul Haque Babu was shot on August 5 last year during a protest under Jatrabari Police Station. He sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and right side and was pronounced dead at the hospital. His father, Joynal Abedin, filed a murder case on August 30, naming 25 people, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, as accused. Touhid Afridi is listed as the 11th accused, while his father Nasir is the 22nd.
