Dhaka, July 14 (V7N) – The International Crimes Tribunal-1, headed by Justice Golam Mortuza Majumder, is set to issue the order for framing charges today in the Chankharpul murder case, involving the brutal killing of Shaheed Anas and six others.

On Monday morning, four arrested police personnel — Inspector Arshad, Constable Md. Sujan, Constable Imaz Hossain Emon, and Constable Nasirul Islam — were produced before the tribunal for the hearing. If the charges are framed as expected, formal trial proceedings will commence, marking this case as the second trial of its kind under the tribunal.

Accused and Proceedings:

The case also names four absconding senior officers as co-accused:

  • Former DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman

  • Former Joint Commissioner Sudip Kumar Chakraborty

  • Former Additional Deputy Commissioner (Ramna) Shah Alam Md. Akhtarul Islam

  • Former Assistant Commissioner (Ramna) Mohammad Imrul

These four did not appear despite a public notice issued on June 3. As a result, the tribunal has appointed state defense counsel Qutub Iddin to represent them in absentia.

Other Developments:

On the same day, three accused in the Yamin murder case in Savar, as well as three more, including former IGP Shahidul Haque, in the Mirpur Shipyard murder case, were also presented before the tribunal.

The Chankharpul killings have drawn national attention as emblematic of state-backed violence during a time of political unrest. Families of the victims have demanded swift justice and exemplary punishment for those responsible.
