Dhaka, July 15 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of the country today, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds expected in multiple regions, including the capital.

Key Highlights:

  • Heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast in some areas of Rajshahi and Khulna divisions within the next 24 hours starting from 9 am.

  • Thunderstorms with gusty winds reaching speeds up to 60 kmph are expected in 15 regions, including Dhaka, by the evening.

  • River ports in affected areas have been advised to hoist warning signal number 1 as a precaution against temporary stormy weather.

The Meteorological Department has forecast thunderstorms with winds of 45-60 kmph originating from the south/southeast, affecting:

  • Bogra

  • Tangail

  • Dhaka

  • Patuakhali

  • Comilla

  • Noakhali

  • A low pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and southwest coastal Bangladesh has intensified into a land depression as of 3 pm today.

  • The monsoon axis extends from Punjab and Haryana through Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, Assam, and the North Bay of Bengal.

  • Monsoon winds remain active and strong over Bangladesh and the North Bay of Bengal.

24-Hour Forecast (from 6 pm, July 15):

  • Light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds likely over most parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions.

  • Similar weather expected in many areas of Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, and Chittagong divisions.

  • Some places across the country may experience moderate to heavy or very heavy rainfall.

  • Temperatures, both day and night, are expected to remain almost unchanged nationwide.
