Dhaka, July 12 (V7N) – Leaders of the Dhaka University unit of Chhatra Dal have demanded immediate justice for Lal Chand alias Sohag (39), a Bhangari (scrap) businessman who was recently murdered. The demand was made following a protest march on the university campus on Friday night.
During the protest, Chhatra Dal leaders expressed grave concern over the country’s deteriorating law and order situation. They stated that the people of Bangladesh, including ordinary students, had hoped for safety and security under the current government, but that hope is being eroded by the continued rise in violent crime.
Citing statistics, the student leaders claimed that in the past four months alone, 136 murders have occurred in Dhaka city, while the nationwide tally stands at 1,274.
They warned that if those responsible for Sohag’s murder are not swiftly arrested and punished, Chhatra Dal will intensify its protests in the coming days.
