Dhaka, Feb 24 (V7N)- The future of the postal department’s mobile financial service Nagad in the private sector depends on government policy, according to Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur, Governor of Bangladesh Bank.

The Governor indicated that a final decision will be made once the government’s policy on this matter is confirmed.

Parliamentary Discussion on Foreign Investment

Mir Ahmad bin Kasem Arman, Member of Parliament for Dhaka-14, told reporters that he discussed the issue with Dr. Mansur on Tuesday afternoon. The meeting was part of ongoing talks aimed at attracting foreign investment into Nagad, a process initiated during the interim government.

Mir Ahmad added that foreign investors have shown interest in Nagad and selected him to facilitate discussions, citing his background in an entrepreneurial family.

Outlook:
Experts say a clear government policy on allowing private or foreign investment in Nagad could significantly boost competition and innovation in Bangladesh’s mobile financial services sector.
