Dhaka, Sep 16 (V7N) – The Bangladesh government has granted conditional approval to 37 companies to export a total of 1,200 metric tons of Hilsa fish to India on the occasion of Durga Puja 2025.
The notification, issued by SHM Magfurul Hasan Abbasi, Deputy Secretary of the Export-2 Branch of the Ministry of Commerce, outlined the conditions for export. The approved period for exports is September 16 to October 5, and companies must strictly follow the Export Policy 2024-27. Customs authorities will inspect all consignments to ensure compliance, and no exporter is allowed to exceed the permitted quantity or transfer the permission to others.
In the notification, the government emphasized that exporters must submit detailed records of prior exports for any subsequent applications. Authorities reserve the right to cancel export permission at any time if regulations are violated.
Earlier, Farida Akhtar, Advisor to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, stated that the decision was made without external pressure, citing religious courtesy and requests as the reason. She noted that this year’s permission to India is less than half of last year’s allocation, while an additional 11,000 tons of Hilsa has been approved for export to Middle Eastern countries to meet the demand of expatriate Bangladeshis.
