PABNA, March 28, (V7N) — President Mohammed Shahabuddin arrived in his hometown Pabna on Saturday for a four‑day official visit, marking his first trip since the BNP‑led government under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman assumed office.
The President landed at Shaheed Advocate Amin Uddin Stadium Helipad at 12:40 pm, accompanied by family members and his entourage. He was received with flowers by local MP Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, alongside senior officials including Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner ANM Bazlur Rashid, DIG Md. Shahjahan, DC Dr Shahed Mustafa, SP Anwar Zahid, and representatives of political and civil society groups.
At the Pabna Circuit House, the Head of State was accorded a formal guard of honour and met local leaders. Security measures have been intensified across the district for the visit.
During his stay, the President will pay respects at his parents’ graves in Arifpur Graveyard, meet journalists at the Pabna Press Club, visit Bhabanipur Mosque, and spend time at his city residence. He is scheduled to depart Pabna for Bangabhaban on March 31.
Meanwhile, President Shahabuddin expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Dilara Hafiz, wife of Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram. In a condolence message, he prayed for eternal peace of her soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
Dilara Hafiz, 78, passed away Saturday morning while undergoing treatment at Singapore General Hospital. A former Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education and Principal of Eden Mohila College, she had been on life support after being flown to Singapore by air ambulance during Eid‑ul‑Fitr.
She is survived by her husband, a son, a daughter, grandchildren, and a wide circle of relatives, colleagues, and admirers.
