Dhaka, Mar 09 (V7N) – Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Hossain Fakir announced on Monday morning that arrangements are underway through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to bring back the accused in the Sharif Osman Hadi murder case. He made the remarks at his first press briefing at the police headquarters, where he also issued a stern warning to extortionists and extremists.
The IGP said that diplomatic channels are being used to repatriate the two suspects who were arrested in connection with the murder of Osman Hadi, and they are expected to be brought back soon.
He also stated that the police have prepared a list of extortionists, and strict action will be taken against them irrespective of party affiliation. “The operation is ongoing beyond party lines. Security measures will be strengthened at important locations including highways and shopping complexes ahead of Eid,” he said.
In addition, Fakir announced plans to modernize the police force, including:
-
Upgrading the CID for efficiency,
-
Converting police stations to zero-complaint stations, and
-
Introducing a magisterial system in police stations for immediate action.
He urged officers not to act independently in ways that could tarnish the reputation of the force and reminded the public to obey the law. Fakir also confirmed that cases filed by the families of police officers killed during the July unrest are under investigation and action will be taken accordingly.
The IGP’s briefing underscores the police’s commitment to maintaining law and order, tackling extortion, and ensuring public safety during the Eid festivities.
