Dhaka, Dec 14 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Election Commission (EC) has formally requested heightened security measures for the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), four election commissioners, and the senior secretary of the commission. The request was made through a letter signed by EC Deputy Secretary Mohammad Monir Hossain on Saturday, sent to the Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

According to the letter, the election schedule for the 13th National Parliamentary Election was announced on December 11. In view of this, the EC emphasized the need for special security arrangements for the CEC, other commissioners, and the senior secretary.

Currently, the CEC receives police escort and vehicle protection, but the commission has requested an additional vehicle and escort during the election period. The request also includes continuous police escort and security for the residences and offices of the four commissioners and the senior secretary to ensure their safety at all times.

The letter underlines that these measures are crucial to ensure smooth and secure conduct of election duties.

Additionally, the EC has issued separate instructions to the police commissioners of Dhaka, Chattogram, and Khulna, directing the deployment of armed security personnel to protect regional election officers and returning officers in these cities. Another letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) instructs the enhancement of security measures at all election offices across the country.

These steps reflect the commission’s proactive approach to safeguard officials and maintain order during the electoral process.
