Dhaka, Nov 03 (V7N)- Expatriate Bangladeshis sent $2.56 billion in remittances to the country throughout October, according to the latest update from Bangladesh Bank.
At the current exchange rate of Tk 122 per US dollar, this amount equals more than Tk 31,131 crore in local currency. On average, the country received $82.7 million in remittances every day during the month.
The central bank’s updated report, published on Sunday (November 2), shows that as of October 31, total remittance inflows reached $2.56 billion.
Of this, $477.8 million came through state-owned banks, while specialized banks handled $242 million. Private commercial banks brought in the largest share — $1.83 billion, and foreign banks facilitated an additional $6.67 million.
The report also shows a slight decline compared to September, when expatriates remitted $2.685 billion. In August, remittances totaled $2.421 billion, while in July, the figure was $2.478 billion.
Economists have attributed the steady inflow to increased overseas employment and the government’s incentives for sending remittances through legal banking channels.
