Dhaka, June 19 (V7N) — The second phase of the National Consensus Commission’s dialogue has officially begun, aiming to build broad political agreement on key national issues ahead of the upcoming elections. The dialogue started at 11:40 AM on Thursday (June 19) at the Doel Hall of the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.
Top leaders from various political parties, including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jamaat-e-Islami, and Nationalist Consensus Party (NCP), are participating in the discussions.
Speaking before the meeting, Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz said that today’s dialogue is expected to focus on the basic principles of the state as well as the term and role of the President.
Earlier, 33 political parties took part in the initial phase of discussions before Eid, while 29 parties attended the second phase of talks on June 17. Dialogue sessions have been ongoing throughout this week as part of efforts to reach a comprehensive national agreement.
Following today’s dialogue, Professor Ali Riaz will brief journalists on the outcomes of the discussions, after which representatives of participating political parties are expected to address the media separately.
The National Consensus Commission aims to foster political understanding in order to ensure a peaceful, inclusive, and credible electoral process in Bangladesh.
