Sundarbans, Sept 15 (V7N) – The body of 16-year-old tourist Mahid Abdullah, who went missing while swimming in the Bay of Bengal near Dimer Char in the Kochikhali Wildlife Sanctuary, was recovered 30 hours later by members of the Forest Department and Coast Guard.
Authorities said the body was found floating in the sea on Sunday around 3 p.m. near the southern side of Dimer Char. Mahid was the son of Dr. Sheikh Sultan Mahmud Asad, a physician at Ibn Sina Diagnostic Center in Mirpur, Dhaka. The family resides in Shekher Tek, Mohammadpur.
Dr. Sultan Mahmud, along with his wife, four sons, and a group of 75 tourists from Dhaka, entered the Sundarbans on Friday aboard the launch The Explorer with permission from the Sharankhola Station Office. On Saturday morning, around 10 a.m., Mahid was swept away by waves while swimming. A joint rescue operation was immediately launched by the Forest Department and Coast Guard.
Md. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, Divisional Forest Officer of the East Sundarbans, confirmed the recovery, stating that the body was later handed over to the family.
