Jhalkathi, July 9 (V7N) – A devastating road accident occurred early Wednesday morning in the Milbari area of Rajapur Upazila, involving two passenger buses that plunged into a roadside ditch. At least five passengers have been injured, according to police and local sources.
 
The buses involved in the accident were from the Welcome Transport and Jamuna Line companies, both heading towards Dhaka. Eyewitnesses reported that at around 5:30 AM, one of the buses lost control and fell into the ditch. Shortly after, another bus, traveling along the same route, also veered off the road and crashed into the same ditch. The accident took place near a sharp bend in the road, according to locals.
 
Several of the injured passengers are in critical condition. They have been sent to the Rajapur Upazila Health Complex and the Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal for treatment.
 
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rajapur police station said, "We reached the scene immediately after receiving the news and began rescue operations. Locals also came forward to assist. Initially, it seems that the drivers lost control due to excessive speed and rain."
 
Police have confirmed that an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
