Dinajpur, July 09 (V7N) — A Chinese engineer died in a tragic accident at the Barapukuria coal mine in Parbatipur, Dinajpur on Tuesday evening, while a child was seriously injured in a separate explosion involving abandoned dynamite from the mine.

The deceased, Wang Jiang Guo (56), was a shift manager and a Chinese national. According to sources, he was crushed under a hydraulic jack in phase 1309 of the coal mine while on duty. His colleagues immediately rescued him and rushed him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Following the incident, coal mining activities have been suspended indefinitely. All Chinese nationals and other foreign workers at the mine have halted operations as they mourn the death of their colleague. The mine's machinery has also been shut down.

In a separate incident on the same afternoon, a 10-year-old child named Ilias, son of Ashraful Islam from Chouhati village near the mine, was seriously injured after an abandoned coal mine dynamite exploded. According to locals, the child found an 8-centimeter-long dynamite stick from a garbage pile near the coal mine and attempted to connect it to electricity using a mobile phone battery and charger at home. The resulting explosion blew off his right fingers.

The coal mine authorities immediately took the injured child to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, where doctors were forced to amputate his fingers.

The back-to-back incidents have raised concerns over safety protocols and hazardous material disposal in and around the Barapukuria coal mine. Locals are demanding stricter safety oversight to prevent future tragedies.
