SEOUL, April 3 (V7N) -North Korea will hold a ceremony this month to bury the remains of its soldiers killed while fighting overseas alongside Russia against Ukraine, state media reported Friday.
Pyongyang has sent thousands of troops, missiles, and munitions to support Russia’s war. Seoul estimates around 2,000 North Koreans have been killed. Analysts say Pyongyang is receiving financial aid, military technology, food, and energy from Moscow in return, helping it circumvent international sanctions over its nuclear programme.
State media said a museum honouring the fallen troops is nearly complete, with a ceremony to bury the remains scheduled for mid-April. The inauguration will coincide with the first anniversary of “operations for liberating Kursk,” according to KCNA.
Leader Kim Jong Un inspected the site, praising the “great heroism” of the soldiers and describing the museum as a “seat for education in patriotism.”
North Korea confirmed last year that it had deployed troops to Ukraine and admitted casualties. Since then, Kim has presided over several ceremonies honouring the dead, including emotional scenes of him embracing returning soldiers and kneeling before portraits of the fallen.
In Juy, state media showed Kim paying respects to flag-draped coffins of deceased troops returning home, underscoring the regime’s efforts to frame their sacrifice as part of a broader struggle alongside Russia.
