Barguna, June 28 (V7N) — The dengue death toll continues to rise in Barguna district as Sirajum Monira (33), the Chief Assistant (CA) of the Patharghata Upazila Parishad, died from dengue complications on Saturday morning. She passed away around 10:00 AM while being transported to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal for advanced treatment.
The news was confirmed by Patharghata Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Mizanur Rahman.
Monira was a resident of Hoglapasha village in Patharghata Sadar Union. She was the daughter of Sirajul Munshi and the wife of Monir Mia from Padma village in the same union. She is survived by two young children—a 10-year-old son and a 6-year-old daughter.
According to local sources, Monira had been suffering from high fever and was admitted to Patharghata Upazila Health Complex on Friday. Her condition deteriorated rapidly, and she was referred to Barishal for emergency care. Unfortunately, she died en route to the hospital.
Dr. Mahbubur Rahman, Family Planning Officer at Patharghata Health Complex, stated,
“She had been running a fever since Tuesday. She came for treatment on Friday, but due to her critical condition, we referred her to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal. Sadly, she passed away before reaching there.”
The District Health Department has reported an alarming rise in dengue infections across Barguna. As of now, the district has recorded 2,779 confirmed dengue cases. The virus has claimed 24 lives so far this season, including two deaths in Patharghata Upazila alone.
Health officials continue to urge citizens to remain vigilant, take preventive measures against mosquito bites, and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms appear.
