Chattogram, June 18 (V7N) — In response to a recent surge in COVID-19 infections, the Chattogram City Corporation has relaunched its Pfizer booster vaccination campaign, prioritizing high-risk groups such as senior citizens and pregnant women in the first phase of the rollout.

The program officially resumed on Wednesday, with vaccines being distributed across seven administrative zones of the city. According to health officials, each zone has initially received 300 doses of the Pfizer vaccine, totaling 2,100 doses citywide. Each vial contains six doses, ensuring efficient use and minimal wastage.

Priority Groups: Elderly and Pregnant Women First

In this renewed phase, individuals aged 60 and above, along with expectant mothers, are being invited to receive their booster shots. Health authorities have emphasized that these groups remain most vulnerable to severe outcomes from COVID-19 infections, particularly amid emerging variants.

“We are focusing on the most at-risk populations first, while preparing for wider community coverage in the coming weeks,” said a senior official from the City Health Department.

Awareness Campaign to Encourage Vaccination

To ensure the success of the program, the city’s health department is planning an awareness campaign to encourage broader public participation and combat vaccine hesitancy. Community outreach, media announcements, and collaboration with local clinics are being employed to boost turnout.

This initiative marks the continuation of Chattogram’s commitment to public health during the pandemic and is aligned with national efforts to curb potential outbreaks.
