Dhaka, Dec 20 (V7N) — The death of Sharif Osman Hadi, a key leader of the July mass uprising and convener of Inquilab Mancha, has cast a shadow of mourning across Bangladesh, prompting calls for calm, restraint, and adherence to the rule of law amid rising tensions.

Sharif Osman Hadi died on December 18 while undergoing treatment in Singapore, triggering protests and heightened emotions in the capital and other parts of the country. In this context, National Citizen Party senior joint member secretary Dr Tasnim Jara issued a message on Friday night through her verified Facebook page, emphasizing peace, reason, and legal accountability.

Dr Tasnim Jara said Hadi’s struggle was about building the state and strengthening institutions, not destruction. She noted that he sought to represent the people through democratic means by being elected, and that his political vision stood firmly against violence.

She warned that attempts to channel public anger into destructive actions could push the country toward instability. While demanding justice for Hadi’s killing, she stressed that accountability must be ensured strictly through legal procedures, stating that taking the law into one’s own hands is unacceptable under any circumstances.

Dr Tasnim Jara further said it was the collective responsibility of all to guide public outrage toward rational and responsible political action. She cautioned that violence contradicts Hadi’s ideals and could obstruct the country’s broader welfare and democratic progress.

Sharif Osman Hadi was shot on December 12 while conducting public outreach activities in the Bijoynagar area of Dhaka. Despite prolonged medical treatment, his life could not be saved. Following the announcement of his death, large gatherings were reported at Shahbagh and other areas. Subsequently, tensions escalated in some parts of the city, leading to incidents of vandalism and arson at several establishments in areas including Karwan Bazar and Dhanmondi.
