Dhaka, Aug 18 (V7N) – Leaders from 15 political parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami, National Citizens' Party (NCP), and Islami Andolon, have demanded that the upcoming national election be held under the July Accord. During a seminar organized by Jamaat in the capital on Sunday, they emphasized that the election must follow the legal framework outlined in the July Accord, warning that failing to do so would result in a major crisis.

The seminar, titled "Legal Foundation of the July Declaration and Our Actions," was chaired by Jamaat's Deputy Amir, Dr. Syed Abdullah Md. Taher. A paper was presented by party leader and lawyer Shishir Monir, who argued that if the interim government proceeds with an election lacking legal legitimacy under the July Accord, it would lead to catastrophic consequences.

Dr. Taher cautioned the interim government to act carefully and not deviate from the principles of the July Accord. He also stated that the current government has compromised with fascism, and the upcoming election should be conducted under a proportional representation system to avoid further authoritarian rule.

The speakers also criticized the government's lack of neutrality, pointing out that it has been heavily influenced by one political party. Some participants argued that if the legal foundation of the July Accord is not solidified, the success of the revolution would be jeopardized.

Leaders from various political factions at the seminar called for the July Declaration to be fully implemented and legally recognized, or else the future government would not adhere to it. They further stressed the need for a new constitution to address the issues of one-sided elections and unfulfilled promises from previous governments.

Notable speakers included Jamaat's Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, NCP's Secretary General Akhtar Hossain, Islami Andolon’s presidium member Mawlana Ashraf Ali Akn, and various other senior figures from the political landscape.
