Dhaka, Aug 16 (V7N) – Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman has urged all citizens to pledge to maintain harmony and live peacefully, regardless of religion, caste, or ethnicity. Extending Janmashtami greetings to the Hindu community, he emphasized that Bangladesh belongs equally to everyone.
The Army Chief made these remarks while inaugurating the Janmashtami procession at Palashi intersection in the capital on Saturday (August 16).
“The way Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians, Paharis, and Bengalis live in harmony in Bangladesh, our pledge on this day will be to preserve that environment and ensure a beautiful, peaceful life for all. There will be no discrimination between any religion, caste, or tribe here,” General Waqar-uz-Zaman said.
He assured that law enforcement and security forces are deployed across the country to ensure safety during all religious celebrations. “This country belongs to everyone. You will live here in peace, and we will share this joy together, no matter how many religious festivals you celebrate,” he added.
The Army Chief also expressed hope that the ideals of Lord Krishna would inspire all citizens. “We will always be by your side. You will live peacefully in this country. This festival will continue forever, and we will provide any support you need.”
Later, the chiefs of the three services lit lamps to formally inaugurate the Janmashtami procession. The colorful rally began from Palashi intersection and is scheduled to conclude at Bahadur Shah Park in Dhaka.
