Washington DC, July 10 (V7N) – The second round of high-level negotiations between Bangladesh and the United States on a tariff-trade agreement began in Washington DC on Wednesday, as both nations seek to address looming tariff hikes and deepen bilateral trade ties.

According to a press release from the Press Wing of the Chief Advisor, the first day of the three-day discussion covered nearly all major aspects of the current trade relationship between the two countries.

The talks follow a recent move by US President Donald Trump, who announced a 35 percent tariff on imports from 14 countries, including Bangladesh, set to take effect on August 1. While US officials may consider adjusting the timeline, Bangladesh is aiming to finalize an agreement before the new tariff policy comes into force.

The Bangladeshi delegation was led by Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin. National Security Advisor Dr. Khalilur Rahman joined the talks virtually from Dhaka, while Special Assistant to the Principal Advisor on ICT and Telecommunications Faiz Ahmed Tayyab and senior officials from the Ministry of Commerce were also present in Washington.

On the US side, representatives from key departments—Agriculture, Energy, Trade, and Copyright offices—participated in the meeting.

The second day of the talks will begin at 9 PM Bangladesh time on Thursday (July 10) and will continue into Friday, as both parties push to reach a mutually beneficial understanding amid growing global trade uncertainty.
