Dhaka, June 17 (V7N) — The International Crimes Tribunal-2 has officially commenced its proceedings with the formal reception of three newly appointed judges, who will oversee the high-profile trials related to the July-August genocide.
Attorney General Mohammad Asaduzzaman and Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal, Tajul Islam, welcomed the judges at a ceremony held on Tuesday (June 17).
Speaking after the reception, the Attorney General emphasized that the trials will be conducted in full compliance with international standards, ensuring transparency and fairness. “There will be no question marks in the process,” he assured.
Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam added that the cases pertaining to the July-August genocide would be divided between two tribunals to expedite the process. He further stressed the public demand for an end to the culture of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings in the country.
In a significant development today, the Tribunal issued a formal notification summoning former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to surrender in connection with the July-August genocide case. The notice warns that the trial will proceed in their absence if they fail to comply.
