Dhaka, Feb 7 (V7N) — Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has denounced the police use of force against Inqilab Mancha protesters demanding a UN-led investigation into the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi. In a statement on Friday, the party’s Assistant Secretary General Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer urged the state to refrain from repression and instead address the legitimate demands of the public.
The statement said that police suppression of a march toward the Chief Adviser’s residence is unacceptable. It emphasized that in a democratic state, peaceful movements seeking justice are a constitutional right, and the use of sound grenades, tear gas, batons, and bullets to curb such protests is condemnable.
Jamaat leaders also expressed serious concern over injuries sustained by protesters, particularly Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber, who was reportedly shot. The party demanded an immediate and impartial investigation and exemplary punishment for responsible police officers.
On Friday, senior Jamaat officials visited Dhaka Medical College Hospital to see the injured, including Abdullah Al Jaber. The party’s Women’s Wing Secretary, Nurun Nisa Siddique, also condemned the police action, calling it a violation of citizens’ rights to peaceful protest.
