Khagrachhari, Sept 20 (V7N) – A gunfight occurred early Saturday morning between the Bangladesh Army and armed members of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF-Main) in Jagapara area of Panchhari Upazila, Khagrachhari. Following the encounter, the army recovered weapons and ammunition left behind by the fleeing militants.
According to the Khagrachhari Army Region, based on secret intelligence, a special operation was conducted at the residence of active UPDF-Main member Manek Chakma in Jagapara village. During the search, 15–20 armed militants opened fire on the army personnel as they attempted to flee. The army returned fire, and after a brief exchange of gunfire, the situation was brought under control. A detailed search of Manek Chakma’s residence and surrounding areas recovered one Russian pistol (TT-33 Tokarev), two magazines, eight rounds of pistol ammunition, 200 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, one walkie-talkie set, a first aid kit, and militant uniforms.
The army confirmed that the Panchhari police have filed cases against key members of the UPDF-Main’s military wing, including Bhuvan Tripura, Suman Chakma, Tibro Chakma, Orchid Chakma, Shankar Chakma, and Ang Marmas.
Authorities emphasized that the operations aim to protect the lives and property of civilians in the hill areas. The army stressed that no innocent civilians are harassed during these actions and pledged to continue strict operations against armed militant groups to maintain peace and security.
