COX’S BAZAR, March 7, (V7N) - Police recovered the body of a missing woman from beneath an elevator at the 250-bed District Sadar Hospital in Cox’s Bazar on Saturday, four days after she was reported missing. The discovery has sparked outrage and raised serious questions about hospital security and management.
The deceased, Kohinur Akhtar (32), was a resident of South Dalepara in Ukhia’s Rajapalong Union and wife of expatriate Nurul Islam. She had brought her daughter for treatment on March 3, when she suddenly went missing. Despite family searches and a general diary filed with police, her whereabouts remained unknown until CCTV footage revealed she had entered an elevator but never exited.
Her bloody body was later found under the elevator, shocking relatives and hospital staff. Rumors had circulated on social media about possible abduction or personal issues, but the recovery shifted focus to hospital mismanagement.
Local resident Mohammad Ali Hossain criticized the hospital authorities, saying: “The hospital did not discover a body lying under the elevator for four days. This is extreme irresponsibility. Regular checks and maintenance could have prevented such an incident.”
Hospital Superintendent Dr. Mong Tingyo could not be reached for comment despite repeated attempts. Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station OC Chhami Uddin confirmed police presence at the site and said the matter will be investigated thoroughly, with legal action to follow.
