Rangamati, Nov 17 (V7N) – Law enforcement agencies in Rangamati have uncovered evidence suggesting potential political violence in the district following the arrest of several members of a banned student organization. Digital devices seized from the suspects, including mobile phones and messages on social media, WhatsApp, and Telegram, contained indications of planned attacks, prompting authorities to take the situation seriously.

Officials revealed that the recovered communications indicated possible targeting of local leaders of major political parties and organizational officials in the Rangamati region. While the investigation is ongoing to verify the authenticity and feasibility of the plans, authorities are assessing the security risks for potential targets.

A law enforcement officer stated that one arrested suspect’s device revealed active group chats with fugitive leaders, and similar activity has been noted recently on Telegram groups. Analysts believe these communications suggest discussions about targeting political figures, though the identities of all involved and the practical execution of these plans are under review.

Investigations indicate that fugitive leaders of banned organizations have been coordinating with local operatives in areas such as Naniarchor, Bandukbhanga, Balukhali, Jurachhari, and Bilaichhari. Some operatives connected through business or employment channels have been transmitting information about political leaders and administrative actions to these fugitives.

Rangamati District Police Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime), Mohammad Josim Uddin Chowdhury, confirmed that authorities have received intelligence regarding potential disruptive activities and are maintaining vigilant surveillance. Police have strengthened preparations to prevent any acts of sabotage or political violence in the district.

Local political leaders have expressed concern and urged all parties to remain cautious to avoid escalation. The administration has increased monitoring in sensitive areas, deployed visibility patrols, established additional check posts, and intensified special security measures to protect residents and tourists in this popular region.

Authorities continue to investigate the situation while coordinating with local communities to ensure public safety and prevent any politically motivated violence.
