Barguna, Nov 16 (V7N) – On the eve of the verdict in the case against Sheikh Hasina on charges labelled as crimes against humanity, the banned organization Chhatra League, along with affiliated wings of the Awami League, declared a complete nationwide shutdown scheduled for on Monday. In the days leading up to this call, leaders and activists of these groups reportedly carried out a series of disruptive activities across Bangladesh from November 8 to 16 in an effort to enforce the program.
As part of these actions, several facilities in Bukabunia area of Bamna upazila were found sealed late Saturday night. Local residents discovered that the entrance gates of Bukabunia Union Parishad, Bamna Land Office, and a government college had been locked from the outside.
Photos of the locked facilities were later uploaded to Facebook by Rezaul Kabir Reza, the president of the banned Barguna District Chhatra League. In his post, he wrote that the Bamna unit deserved appreciation for “successfully enforcing the shutdown by locking government college buildings, the land office, and other government establishments.”
Bamna Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Harun-or-Rashid stated that officers quickly visited the scene after receiving reports of the incident. He confirmed that an investigation is underway to identify those responsible. According to the OC, several local disputes may also be connected to the incident. He noted that disagreements regarding the Union Parishad, recent human chains over issues involving the land office, and conflicts related to local schools could indicate that individuals involved in these disputes might have locked the structures themselves. Police say all possibilities remain under review.
Authorities have increased monitoring in the area to prevent further disruptions as the shutdown announcement continues to draw nationwide attention.
