Chattogram, Nov 06 (V7N) – Five leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its affiliated organizations were injured in a shooting incident in Rauzan upazila of Chattogram district on Wednesday night. The injured have been admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

The incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. in Chowdhury Para, Ward No. 7 of Bagoan Union. The victims include Abdullah Sumon, General Secretary of Rauzan Upazila Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal; Md. Ismail, Vice President of Bagoan Union Krishak Dal; Khorshed Alam Chowdhury, Joint Convener of Bagoan Union Sramik Dal; Robiul Hossain Rubel, Vice President of Bagoan Union Jubo Dal; and Mohammad Sohel, a BNP worker. All five are residents of Bagoan Union.

Abdullah Sumon sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and is reported to be in critical condition. All victims are followers of Golam Akbar Khondokar, an adviser to the BNP chairperson.

Local residents reported that a group of armed men arrived on motorcycles and in a car, opening fire indiscriminately before fleeing the scene. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and the entire Chowdhury Para area is now gripped with fear.

Rauzan Upazila BNP President Jasim Uddin Chowdhury said that the victims were returning home after a discussion meeting in preparation for the historic Revolution and Solidarity Day on Wednesday. On their way, seven to ten armed assailants, allegedly led by Istiaq Chowdhury Abhi along with Altaf Chowdhury Tutul and Jony Chowdhury, opened fire on them, leaving the five leaders injured.

Efforts to contact the Officer-in-Charge of Rauzan Police Station were unsuccessful. Meanwhile, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of the Rauzan-Rangunia Circle, Md. Belayet Hossain, confirmed to reporters that authorities visited the site but found no one present. He added that a search operation is underway and investigations are ongoing to determine the motive and apprehend the perpetrators.

The incident has raised concerns about political violence in the region, and local BNP leaders have called for immediate action to ensure the safety of party members and prevent further attacks.
