Sundarbans, Sept 16 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Coast Guard has arrested a suspected poacher with 103 kilograms of deer meat, a deer head, and hunting traps from the Sundarbans’ Angtihara area. The operation was confirmed on Monday by Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq.
 
Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Coast Guard’s Koyra contingent launched a special raid around 1 a.m. Monday in the Shoto Angtihara area. During the operation, officers recovered 103 kg of venison, one deer head, and nearly 300 meters of deer hunting traps. A suspect, identified as Mizanur Rahman of Angtihara village in Koyra upazila of Khulna district, was taken into custody.
 
The seized items and the detainee were later handed over to the Andarmanick Forest Office in Koyra for legal proceedings. Authorities said further legal action will follow under wildlife protection laws.
 
The Coast Guard has vowed to continue such operations in the Sundarbans to curb illegal poaching and trafficking of wildlife.
