RANGAMATI, Sept 9 (V7N) – Police in Rangamati have intensified operations across the city to curb drug abuse, illegal arms, extortion, mob violence, and other antisocial activities. According to Kotwali Police Station, special drives conducted throughout August led to the arrest of at least 111 individuals, all of whom were later sent to court.

During the operations, 51 people were detained on charges of drug use and involvement in antisocial activities. Police also recovered around 280 yaba tablets, 38 liters of homemade liquor, 10 stolen mobile phones, one victim who had been abducted, a locally made LG firearm, two rounds of ammunition, and a machete.

In addition to these arrests, 21 suspects were held in connection with ongoing cases. Six drug-related cases and five other cases were disposed of during the month. Fresh cases were also filed in August, including five for drugs, one for illegal arms, one for theft, one for robbery, and one miscellaneous offense.

Police confirmed that 37 individuals were apprehended under outstanding arrest warrants.

Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Sahed Uddin said that under the direct supervision of Superintendent of Police Dr. Farhad Hossain, the crackdown against extortion, mob activities, and antisocial crimes is continuing. He emphasized that law enforcement alone cannot fully eliminate drug abuse and other crimes without public support.

“Alongside strict enforcement of the law, cooperation from local communities is crucial. If citizens share information, it becomes easier to identify and dismantle criminal networks,” he said.

Local civic groups also believe that crime control in Rangamati will improve significantly if residents actively collaborate with police authorities.
