DHAKA, Mar 31 (V7N) — The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources has officially announced that the prices of fuel oils—including diesel, petrol, octane, and kerosene—will remain unchanged for the month of April. The decision, issued via an office order on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, aims to provide stability to consumers despite the ongoing Middle East conflict and rising international oil prices.
According to the Ministry, the retail prices at the consumer level will be maintained at the rates established in February and March:
| Fuel Type | Price (per Liter) |
| Octane | Tk 120 |
| Petrol | Tk 116 |
| Kerosene | Tk 112 |
| Diesel | Tk 100 |
Stability Amid Global Crisis
While the government adopted an automated fuel pricing formula in March 2024—designed to adjust local rates every month based on the international market—the current administration has opted to bypass an upward adjustment this month. Despite global crude oil prices surging past $115 per barrel due to the 32nd day of the U.S.-Iran conflict, the Ministry emphasized its commitment to preventing a domestic inflationary spiral.
"The government had earlier pledged not to increase fuel prices during the current Middle East crisis to protect the public from additional economic pressure," the notification stated. This follows a trend from earlier this year, where prices were reduced by a total of Tk 4 per liter across January and February.
Countering Rumors and Hoarding
The announcement comes at a critical time, as rumors of a potential price hike had triggered widespread "panic buying" and hoarding at filling stations across Dhaka and other major cities today. With the official confirmation that prices will remain steady throughout April, energy officials expect the artificial supply pressure and long queues at pumps to subside by Wednesday morning.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid confirmed earlier today that diplomatic talks are ongoing with Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and Indonesia to ensure a steady inflow of fuel shipments to maintain these price levels throughout the second quarter of the year.
