Dhaka, Dec 25 (V7N) – Khodabakhsh Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser responsible for the Ministry of Home Affairs, has stepped down from his position. The President has accepted his resignation, according to an official notification issued on Wednesday.
The notification was released by the Cabinet Division on December 24 and was signed by Cabinet Secretary Dr Sheikh Abdur Rashid on behalf of the President.
No official reason has been disclosed for Chowdhury’s resignation. However, it is widely speculated that the decision came amid mounting pressure following the killing of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi and subsequent demands raised by the organization.
Khodabakhsh Chowdhury was appointed as Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser in charge of the Home Ministry on November 10 last year. Prior to this role, he served as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Bangladesh.
In a separate development, Professor Ali Riaz, also a Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, has been assigned as the chief coordinator of public awareness campaigns related to the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election and referendum.
An official directive in this regard was issued on Wednesday by the Office of the Chief Adviser. The directive states that Professor Ali Riaz will oversee and coordinate all public awareness activities concerning the election and referendum process.
Before assuming his current role, Ali Riaz served as Vice Chairman of the National Consensus Commission. He was later appointed as Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser with the rank of an adviser.
Professor Ali Riaz joined Illinois State University in the United States in 2002 and currently serves as a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Politics and Government at the university.
