Dhaka, Sep 08 (V7N) – Along with millions worldwide, people across Bangladesh enjoyed a breathtaking celestial spectacle on Sunday night as the full moon of Purnima was completely eclipsed, transforming into a glowing ‘Blood Moon’.
From children to the elderly, many gathered on rooftops in Dhaka and other cities with telescopes and binoculars to witness the rare phenomenon. The sight of the moon disappearing into Earth’s shadow and reemerging with a reddish hue kept skywatchers captivated late into the night.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the lunar eclipse began at 9:27 pm, with the total eclipse starting at 11:30 pm. The central eclipse peaked at 12:11 am, and the moon began to emerge from the shadow at 12:53 am, returning to its normal form by 2:56 am. The total eclipse lasted 82 minutes, making it the longest since 2022.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) earlier announced that the eclipse would be fully visible across a wide region stretching from Hila Island in Indonesia to Mombasa Port in Kenya. However, it was not visible from North America, the Caribbean, or most of South America.
For many in Bangladesh, the rare cosmic event was more than just science — it was poetry. From rooftop gatherings to quiet moments of stargazing, Sunday night became an unforgettable celebration of nature’s wonders.
