Dhaka, Sep 07 (V7N) – The world will witness a rare celestial event tonight as a total lunar eclipse, popularly known as the blood moon, will be visible from various parts of the globe, including Bangladesh.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the eclipse can be observed in Bangladesh if the sky remains clear.
The eclipse will begin at 8:28 pm (Bangladesh time) and continue for a total of 7 hours and 27 minutes. The most spectacular phase — the total eclipse — will occur when the Earth’s shadow completely covers the moon, giving it a reddish or copper hue.
From 9:27 pm, observers in Bangladesh will see a portion of the moon gradually darken. By 10:30 pm, the Earth’s shadow will entirely envelop the moon, producing the striking red glow that gives rise to the term blood moon.
The phenomenon will be visible across a wide stretch — from Hila Island in Indonesia in the east to Mombasa Port in Kenya in the west. However, North America, the Caribbean, and much of South America will miss the spectacle.
Astronomers note that beyond its breathtaking beauty, the eclipse provides an opportunity to study the Earth’s atmosphere, as the moon’s red coloration is caused by the filtering of sunlight through atmospheric particles.
Sky enthusiasts and the general public are encouraged to enjoy this rare event — a natural wonder not only to admire but also to learn from.
