Dhaka, Sept 2 (V7N) – Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has directed the Ministry of Health to arrange immediate overseas medical treatment for Nurul Haque Nur, the president of the Gono Odhikar Parishad and a prominent leader in the July mass uprising, following reports of his critical condition.
The decision came after Nur's wife, Maria Akter, along with party general secretary Rashed Khan and senior joint secretary Hasan Al Mamun, met with the Chief Adviser on Tuesday at the state guest house Jamuna. During the meeting, Maria Akter broke down in tears as she described her husband's deteriorating health condition.
According to her statement, Nur has suffered a brain hemorrhage, a broken nasal bone, jaw injuries, and spinal trauma. She emphasized that Nur requires immediate advanced medical care abroad to prevent further complications.
In response, the Chief Adviser issued an on-the-spot directive to the Health Ministry to ensure Nur is transferred abroad for treatment without delay. “We are all shocked by this incident. Every measure is being taken to ensure he receives the best possible care. A judicial investigation is already underway,” Yunus stated.
Also present during the meeting were Legal Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul, Environmental Adviser Rizwana Hasan, and Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan.
Legal Adviser Asif Nazrul confirmed that a one-member judicial inquiry committee, headed by Justice Ali Reza, is being formed to investigate the attack. The official gazette notification regarding the committee is expected to be published by tomorrow. The committee has been tasked with submitting its findings within 15 days.
The incident has stirred significant political concern, with rights groups and civil society organizations calling for accountability and transparency in the investigation process.
