Narsingdi, Nov 18 (V7N) – Employees of Ghorashal Palash Fertilizer PLC held a gate meeting and human chain protest on Monday, demanding accelerated promotions, revision of staffing setups, implementation of 5% and 15% special incentives, and the immediate removal of the Urea Plant in-charge. The demonstration took place in front of the company’s main gate, followed by a protest march within the fertilizer plant premises.
The rally was addressed by Al-Amin Bhuiya, president of Palash Thana Workers’ Party and acting president of Bangladesh Workers Federation; Sheikh Farid, president of Ghorashal Palash Fertilizer Employees’ Union; general secretary Almgir Hossain; executive president Habibur Rahman; and vice president Iftekharul Haque Gazi. The event was moderated by Iftekharul Haque Gazi, with additional participation from joint general secretary Md Liaquat Ali Mia, organizational secretary Pradip Chandra Das, office secretary Md Zahedul Iqbal, labor affairs secretary Shafiul Alam, and negotiation secretary Abdullah Al Maruf, along with other union leaders.
Habibur Rahman stated that remnants of the previous administration still influence the management, creating bureaucratic hurdles for employee promotions. He emphasized that 137 employees are awaiting automatic promotions, while 99 await general promotions, with demands to be addressed within 14 working days.
General secretary Almgir Hossain called for the immediate implementation of 5% and 15% special incentives and a reorganization of plant-specific staffing setups. He added that the Urea Plant in-charge must be removed within 24 hours due to authoritarian practices and mismanagement.
Al-Amin Bhuiya warned that the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) would mobilize a broader movement of workers across all affiliated establishments if the demands for incentives and a unified corporation-commission structure were not met.
Sheikh Farid declared that if the union’s demands remain unfulfilled within the next 14 working days, the employees’ union will announce a stricter action plan, cautioning that any resulting disruption in production would be the management’s responsibility.
