Gaza, June 29 (V7N) — At least 81 Palestinians have been killed and more than 400 injured in a single day of Israeli airstrikes on the besieged Gaza Strip, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health. The attacks mark one of the deadliest days in recent months in the ongoing conflict.
The latest death toll was reported by the British broadcaster BBC, citing Palestinian health authorities on Saturday, June 28. Continuous Israeli military operations have now brought the total number of fatalities in Gaza to nearly 56,500 over the past 21 months, according to local estimates.
The densely populated enclave of Gaza has been under near-total blockade and relentless aerial bombardment, which humanitarian organizations warn has created catastrophic conditions for civilians. Hospitals remain overwhelmed, with shortages of medical supplies, electricity, and clean water exacerbating the crisis.
International calls for a ceasefire have intensified amid rising casualties and mounting concern over the humanitarian fallout. However, diplomatic efforts have so far failed to produce a sustained truce or facilitate a large-scale humanitarian corridor.
The Israeli government has maintained that its military actions target Hamas and other militant factions operating within Gaza, while Palestinian officials and rights groups accuse Israel of disproportionately targeting civilian infrastructure and population centers.
As the conflict stretches into its second year, global pressure is mounting on all parties involved to de-escalate and prioritize civilian lives. The United Nations has reiterated its call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the protection of non-combatants in accordance with international humanitarian law.
