Washington, June 22 (V7N) — The United States has launched a targeted military strike on three nuclear facilities in Iran, in a significant escalation of tensions between the two nations. The Pentagon confirmed that the operation, dubbed “Operation Midnight,” was not intended to trigger regime change in Tehran.

U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth emphasized that the strike’s purpose was solely to neutralize threats posed by Iran’s nuclear capabilities. “This operation was not about changing Iran’s leadership,” Hegseth stated. “In fact, prior to the strike, Washington sent a direct message to Tehran, calling for dialogue and negotiations.”

According to a Reuters report, the operation involved seven U.S.-built B-2 stealth bombers, which dropped a total of 14 bunker-buster bombs on high-value targets. General Dan Kane, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, confirmed the details of the precision strike during a press briefing.

President Donald Trump authorized the mission, describing it as a “flawless operation” aimed at eliminating threats posed by Iran’s nuclear ambitions. “This mission was vital for protecting U.S. national interests from the existential risks posed by Iran’s nuclear program,” said Hegseth.

The Pentagon also issued a stern warning to Tehran, urging restraint and caution in the wake of the strike. Hegseth cautioned that any attempt at retaliation would be met with a strong U.S. military response. “If Iran chooses the path of escalation, the U.S. forces will not hesitate to defend themselves,” he added.

The international community is closely monitoring the situation, as fears mount over a broader regional conflict. While Washington insists the strike was limited in scope, analysts warn that such a move could provoke further instability in an already volatile region.
