Dhaka, June 22 (V7N) — Bangladesh reported one new death and 329 fresh hospitalizations from dengue fever in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 7,758 so far in 2025, health authorities said Saturday.

The death toll from the mosquito-borne viral disease has now climbed to 32 this year, according to a press release from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). The latest fatality adds to growing concerns over a surge in infections as monsoon conditions begin to worsen the outbreak.

The highest number of hospitalizations came from Barishal division, which recorded 136 new cases. Dhaka and its surrounding areas also saw a significant uptick, with 21 cases reported in Dhaka North City Corporation and 43 in Dhaka South. Chattogram accounted for 64 cases, while Khulna, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Dhaka division logged the rest.

Authorities have warned that waterlogging and rising temperatures during the rainy season are accelerating mosquito breeding, placing more pressure on already strained health facilities. Dengue outbreaks typically intensify between June and October in Bangladesh.

Last year, the country recorded its worst dengue season on record, with over 101,000 infections and 575 deaths. This year’s trend is prompting fears of a repeat, particularly in vulnerable areas where sanitation and drainage infrastructure are weak.

Public health officials have urged citizens to eliminate standing water, use mosquito nets and repellents, and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms like high fever and severe body aches appear. City corporations have stepped up fogging operations and awareness drives to combat the spike.
