Dubai, Aug 19 (V7N) – Dubai Police have recovered a rare pink diamond worth $25 million just eight hours after it was stolen, following a swift and coordinated operation.
Dubbed Operation ‘Pink Diamond,’ the recovery led to the arrest of three suspects who had been planning the heist for over a year. The diamond, certified by a leading gemological institute, is nearly unique, with a probability of finding a similar stone estimated at only 0.01%.
Investigations revealed that the suspects targeted the jeweler owner of the diamond by posing as representatives of a wealthy buyer. To gain credibility, they rented luxury cars, held meetings at upscale hotels, and even hired a renowned diamond expert. Convinced by their elaborate scheme, the jeweler removed the diamond from his secure shop.
The gang then lured him to a villa under the pretext of meeting the “buyer,” seized the diamond, and fled. They initially planned to ship the diamond to an Asian country and had hidden it in a freezer.
Using modern tracking technology, Dubai Police’s CID department quickly located the three Asian suspects, who had dispersed after the theft, and arrested them in a coordinated operation across multiple locations.
The diamond, classified as Fancy Intense, weighs 21.25 carats, boasts excellent clarity, and is extremely rare for its symmetry. The jeweler praised the Dubai Police for their “extraordinary” response, noting the professionalism and speed with which the suspects were apprehended and the diamond recovered.
“Within minutes of calling 999, multiple patrols arrived, an investigation was launched, and we were constantly reassured,” he said. “By the next morning, the suspects had been arrested and the diamond recovered.”
