Washington, June 28 (V7N) — US President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Iran, scrapping plans to lift sanctions and threatening additional military action if Tehran continues to enrich uranium at what he described as an alarming rate.
In a series of posts on Truth Social on Friday, Trump lashed out at Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, responding to Khamenei’s first public remarks since the 12-day standoff with Israel that ended last weekend with US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
Trump claimed credit for Khamenei’s survival, writing that he had “saved Khamenei from a horrible and shameful death” at the hands of combined Israeli and US attacks at the start of the conflict.
The US president made clear that any further acceleration of Iran’s nuclear program could trigger renewed military strikes. “We will act decisively if Iran continues down this dangerous path,” he said.
Trump’s decision to abandon any immediate sanctions relief comes amid heightened tensions following the destruction of key Iranian nuclear sites and lingering concerns about Iran’s uranium stockpiles.
