Baghdad, June 22 (V7N) — Iraq has expressed grave concern over the United States' recent airstrikes on Iran's nuclear facilities, calling the move a serious threat to peace and stability in the Middle East, CNN reports.
In an official statement on Sunday, Iraqi government spokesperson Basem al-Awadi said the escalating military tensions pose a significant danger not only to the immediate region but to global stability as well.
“These tensions are endangering the stability of the entire region,” the statement said. “If the attacks continue, they could take a dangerous turn, with repercussions that will not remain confined within any single country’s borders.”
Iraq urged all parties involved to de-escalate immediately and reminded the international community that “war only brings destruction.”
The statement underscores the growing unease across the Middle East following the US strikes on Iran’s Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear facilities — actions that have sparked outrage from several regional players.
As tensions continue to rise, Iraq has positioned itself as one of the voices advocating for restraint and diplomatic solutions to avoid further destabilization.
