Dhaka, Dec 19 (V7N)- BNP Standing Committee member Salauddin Ahmed has described the recent attack on a newspaper office as a planned attempt to destabilize the electoral environment, asserting that such acts of sabotage cannot derail the country’s democratic journey.
Speaking to journalists in Gulshan on Friday, Salauddin Ahmed said the incident was part of a broader conspiracy to create fear and confusion ahead of the upcoming elections. “Democracy cannot be obstructed through violence or intimidation,” he said.
Criticizing the government, the senior BNP leader stated that law enforcement agencies should have strengthened security in areas previously identified as vulnerable. He questioned why preventive measures were not taken despite warnings.
Salauddin Ahmed also said that the BNP is maintaining coordination with the government regarding the return of party Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. He noted that the government is cooperating on security-related issues to ensure a safe and smooth process.
He further announced that the BNP is preparing to accord a grand public reception to Tarique Rahman on December 25, which will be held in the capital’s 300 Feet area.
The BNP leader expressed confidence that despite conspiracies and provocations, the democratic process would continue with the participation and support of the people.
