Dhaka, Dec 14 (V7N) — On behalf of BNP Chairperson and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) paid tribute to the martyred intellectuals on Intellectuals’ Day.
On Sunday (December 14) morning, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir placed a wreath at the Intellectuals’ Memorial in Mirpur.
Speaking to reporters after paying homage, Mirza Fakhrul said that Tarique Rahman’s vision of building a new Bangladesh will one day be realized.
He said that the systematic killing of intellectuals before the country’s victory in 1971 was part of a deliberate plan to deprive the nation of its thinkers, scholars and professionals. “However, the Pakistani occupying forces ultimately failed in that objective,” he added.
The BNP Secretary General further said that the party would continue its struggle to protect national sovereignty and democracy. Expressing optimism, he said that democracy would be restored in the country by overcoming all conspiracies and obstacles.
BNP leaders and activists were present during the wreath-laying ceremony.
