Dhaka, July 12 (V7N) – Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has strongly condemned the brutal murder of businessman Lal Chand alias Sohag (39), who was beaten to death in broad daylight in front of Sir Salimullah Medical College (Mitford) Hospital in Old Dhaka.
In a heartfelt reaction posted on his verified Facebook page Friday night, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, who is currently abroad, expressed his deep shock and grief over the incident. "I am speechless after learning about the Mitford incident. What an era! What a society! How brutally a small, ordinary businessman was murdered in broad daylight in front of hundreds of people just for refusing to pay a bribe!" he wrote.
He extended his condolences and solidarity to the victim’s family, saying, “O victimized and oppressed family, we are ashamed of you. O businessman brother Sohag, we could not build any real resistance before this fate befell you — for this, we are sincerely ashamed.”
Calling on the nation to unite against injustice, Dr. Rahman appealed for collective action: “O society, wake up! Show proof of your survival as a human being. Remember — if you remain silent about someone's danger today, tomorrow when a greater danger comes upon you, you will have no one by your side.”
He urged citizens to build a strong social resistance against all forms of crime and criminality, casting aside fear and hesitation.
Sohag was murdered on Wednesday around 6 p.m. in front of Mitford Hospital. Attackers brutally beat him, crushed his head with bricks and stones, and further desecrated his body. The horrifying scene, captured on video, has since gone viral on social media, sparking nationwide outrage and demands for justice.
Authorities have since confirmed that suspects have been identified, and law enforcement agencies are continuing the investigation.
