Dhaka, July 09 (V7N) — BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the Awami League must be held accountable for genocide, emphasizing that both reform and justice can proceed together.
He made the remarks on Wednesday morning while visiting Dr. Abdul Quddus and Dr. Sirajuddin, advisors to the BNP chairperson, who are currently undergoing treatment at the capital’s Neuroscience Hospital.
“Sheikh Hasina alone is not responsible. The Awami League as a whole must face trial for the genocide,” said Fakhrul. “There is no contradiction between justice and reform. Both are essential to put the country back on the right track,” he added.
Fakhrul reiterated that BNP is the biggest victim of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings, calling for justice not only for the victims but also punishment for those who, he alleged, supported fascism in the country.
Later, the BNP leader also visited another hospital to inquire about the health of renowned singer Farida Parveen, who is undergoing treatment. On behalf of the party, he handed over financial assistance to the artist’s family.
