Dhaka, June 17 (V7N) — BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that an elected government is essential for effectively dealing with the impact of international instability. He emphasized that an elected government can work with legitimacy and efficiency in facing any global challenges.
He made these remarks while addressing journalists after a meeting with Brazilian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Paulo Fernando Dias Feres, at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Tuesday (June 17). The BNP delegation at the meeting was led by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Amir Khasru underscored the importance of national consensus in protecting Bangladesh’s interests during global crises. “There is no alternative to consensus to safeguard national interests,” he said, adding that BNP is committed to creating a culture of political tolerance.
Referring to discussions held before Ramadan, he noted that efforts toward national consensus regarding elections had already been initiated. He urged the authorities to show patience in declaring the election roadmap.
Regarding Bangladesh’s international relations, Amir Khasru said that the country’s election process is a domestic issue and unrelated to the ongoing global instability. He mentioned that during the meeting, discussions were held on possible cooperation between Bangladesh and Brazil in sectors such as sports, especially football. “Brazil has expressed interest in enhancing cooperation with Bangladesh in sports and other sectors,” he added.
